Hi (insert name here), I am Jacob.

Welcome!  I am very honored that you decided to look at my blog.  I am a numbers guy by trade, so you may notice that my blog won’t be quite as verbose as some other coaches out there.  Having never really “blogged” before, this little corner of the website will take a few directions until I find my whey.  <—- See what I did there.

So for this first post I want to get something out of the way.  I need a favor: I need you to be honest with me.

I come here to teach and get fit.  As a coach, I constantly try to learn more about what we do.  I do this so I can give you the best instruction that I can.  So when I ask you to be honest with me; I need for you to help me out.

I expect you to do the following:

Come up to me and tell me if you are having any physical issues.

Tell me what that thing the other coach did that really helped you.

Talk to me about that thing I did in my class that you didn’t like.  Why didn’t you like it? How could I change it?

What can I do to make your workout better?

Ask me to help you to complete a movement better than you currently perform it.

Ask me if I can come in on Sunday’s open gym to help you to break a PR or fix or LEARN a certain skill.

Ask me WHY we do a skill the way we do it or why we have to do this stretch or that warm up.

If my coaching style or motivation style conflicts with how you learn, LET ME KNOW.  I am able to differentiate my coaching.

Be comfortable with me, the reason I am there is for you.

I suppose nothing is free, so in return I will:

Put your safety first.

Make time available to help you.

Fix the issue that you observed with my class or explain why I am doing it that way.

If I don’t know the answer, I darn sure will find out for you.  I will not make up an answer to make you leave me alone.

I will try to incorporate those good ideas from other coaches.

I will be there to motivate you, in the way that is best for you.

The way I see it is this:  Together with your input and my garish charm, we have the ability to have some awesome classes together where you grow as an athlete and I grow as a coach.  Everyone of us has something to contribute to the class.  Everyone.

So we will start now.  Please leave me comments about this post and some possible topics or direction that you want this blog to answer.

In closing, to quote the great Robert Heinlein, “When one teaches, two learn.”

Jaun, TA, and Maggi, So sorry to be late on the reply to you. I didn’t think people would read my stuff. Trust me, I am not at the gym so I can retire early. I love helping people, so feel free to ask me anything at all concerning life, the universe, and everything.
